Tim McKay
Born in Marion, Virginia, Tim became fascinated with photography at an early age. He graduated from the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism with a degree in Photojournalism. After graduation, Tim joined the Governor’s Office of Citizen Affairs to help Governor Jim Hunt promote volunteerism in North Carolina. For that work, he won the prestigious Silver Anvil Award from the Public Relations Society of America.
He spent the next thirty years using his communications skills to assist candidates running for office and nonprofits furthering their cause. When he joined MPI in 2014, he had consulted with more than 60 candidates for public office. Most recently, he consulted with the five former, living North Carolina Governors who were fighting constitutional amendments that would change the powers of the executive branch. Today, he leads MPI’s political division and is already signing clients for the 2020 election cycle.
In the workplace, Tim is known for always asking the perfect questions to ensure the team starts with a solid understanding. His coworkers describe him as easygoing, but also hard working. Tim’s top priority at MPI is excellence in his work, as well as encouraging and embracing new ideas among younger team members. In both his professional and personal life, Tim is most proud of his son, Quinn.
While his career drew him away from his aspiration of being a photojournalist, Tim lives out his passion and uses those skills for the benefit of all MPI’s clients. Tim has always been a night owl, and enjoys photography, writing, and kayaking when he’s not working. Fun fact – Tim is currently writing a book. He describes it as an instructional memoir — detailing his experience with photography and what it has taught him about himself over the years. Here’s a little preview, “There are some pictures that are simply etched in my mind – some taken; some not. For one reason or another, there are many that cannot be included in this book. . . . Therefore my photographic journey will forever remain an incomplete picture.”
We are so thankful to have Tim and his amazing ambition on our MPI team!
